Structural Tower Rescue
for Emergency Responders
All RescueRig ropes Seminars meet the requirements of NFPA 1670
and NFPA 1006. Certificates of Compliance are issued at the
successful completion of the Seminar.

This Seminar covers the
many aspects of tower rescue AS IT APPLIES TO THE FIRE/RESCUE
SERVICE. The need for tower rescue training indeed
should be questioned by rescue agencies. What are the
justifications for this training? Does your team really need
it? What is your tower profile in your area of response? Does
your team really have technician level rope rescue personnel that
are willing to step up to this extremely high risk/higher level of
vertical rescue?
Tower rescue is not for everyone or every department, yet towers by their mere presence throughout every corner of our infrastructure present and ever present danger for workers, the public, and rescuers.
RescueRig is not an advocate of fire rescue personnel climbing live, energized towers to train on or even perform a rescue on, this is strictly a function of qualified employees/journeyman linemen. Therefore the major focus of this Seminar is; how can the fire rescue service best interact with the power company to effect a timely and safe extrication of an injured worker or trespasser? The rope systems incorporated by RescueRig are simple and intended for a safe and rapid extrication of the victim. What makes this a truly technician level event is the stress associated with this metal environment. Towers are not unlike a confined space; they have limited means of access and egress; they have a very limited work space, their not intended for continuous human occupancy, and they always contain something hazardous. The fact is; tower rescues are simply the most challenging event a rope rescue technician may be called upon to perform.
The three basic areas of focus for this Seminar is:
Awareness - including basic electrical safety, hazard recognition, scene size-up, incident command, lockout/tagout, the role of the lineman, the role of fire/rescue, interaction with the power company/proper utility .
Climbing and Descending - including approaching the tower, belay systems for climbers, fall protection, down-climbing and rappelling.
Extrication
Systems - including systems that minimize personnel on the
structure, allow for rapid setup, and facilitate the need for
horizontal movement in a calculated, controlled manner.
